Source record · Catalogue · Review register
Source kind: measurement
Recorded technique: The setup of gorshelev_2014 (Part 1) at eleven temperatures, 293 K down to 193 K in 10 K steps: echelle (213-310 and 350-450 nm, 0.02 nm) and FTS (1 cm^-1; 2 cm^-1 in 780-1100 nm); absolute measurements with pure O3 at 310-335 and 450-780 nm (FTS, 1 cm^-1), calibrated ‘individually at each temperature’, the relative spectra (O2/O3 flow, pre-cooled through a passivated 10 m copper coil) scaled and concatenated to them per temperature; Haake cryostats (fluctuations below +-0.3 K); the gas temperature checked by the O2 A-band rotational temperature (HITRAN 2008 line parameters), agreeing with the Pt and cryostat sensors within 1-3 K (pp. 626-627).

Curation notes#
Identity checked against the first page (PDF page 1, journal p. 625): Serdyuchenko, Gorshelev, Weber, Chehade and Burrows, Atmos. Meas. Tech. 7, 625-636 (2014), Part 2 (temperature dependence; Part 1 is gorshelev_2014). Journal pages 625-636 = PDF pages 1-12. O3 only.
Facts for the data files (the Bremen ‘Serdyuchenko/Gorshelev’ set, the model’s primary absorption term): - Temperatures: 293, 283, ..., 193 K (eleven, 10 K steps) (abstract, p. 627). - Resolution: ‘0.02-0.24 nm (full width at half maximum, FWHM)’ (abstract); echelle 0.02 nm in 213-450 nm; FTS 1 and 2 cm^-1 (p. 627); details, sampling and the 0.01 nm interpolated grid in gorshelev_2014. - Wavelengths: VACUUM (gorshelev_2014: echelle air wavelengths converted with Edlen 1966, FTS wavenumbers); here too the comparison data were ‘converted to vacuum wavelength’ (p. 631). - Absolute scale: pure-O3 pressure at each temperature separately (310-335 and 450-780 nm), ‘independent for every temperature and free from uncertainties of previous studies’ (p. 627); the O3 decay matters only above 243 K. - Uncertainty (Table 2, image checked, p. 628): systematic below 1.2-2.6 % ‘depending on temperature’ (pressure sensors 0.5 %, temperature measurements below 0.3-1.6 % (1-3 K), temperature non-uniformity below 0.3 %, cell length below 0.04-0.07 %, leaks below 0.1 %, O2 impurity 0.005 %); statistical below 1-2.2 % ‘depending on spectral region’ (ozone decay below 1 %, light source 0.2 % (vis) / 2 % (UV), pressure below 0.08 %, temperature below 0.1-0.16 %). ‘A relative uncertainty of 1.5 % can be taken as the upper limit for the temperature-related uncertainty’ (p. 627); ‘in the spectral regions with weak absorption (350-450 nm and longer than 900 nm) statistical uncertainty can reach up to 30 %’ (p. 627). Levels not stated. - The published file: ‘available on the homepage of the Molecular Spectroscopy Laboratory of the Institute of the Environmental Physics, University of Bremen ... Cross-section updates from future measurements are expected’ (p. 635): the version fetched must be named (TC-189).
Temperature parametrisation (p. 630): Eq. (1), sigma(lambda) = 10^-20 [C0(lambda) + C1(lambda) T + C2(lambda) T^2], T in degrees Celsius, cm^2 molecule^-1, fitted per wavelength (the Bass-Paur form); it reproduces the Huggins-band data ‘to within 1.5 %’ at most wavelengths and generally within 2 % at 193 and 293 K. The coefficients are not printed (a data product, not a formula entry).
Temperature effects (pp. 629-634): the Hartley band’s Gaussian centre moves 0.14 nm from 203 to 293 K (BP 0.18, Bogumil 0.05, BMD 0.36 nm from 218 to 295 K); about 2 % increase at the Hartley maximum over 293-193 K; about 1 % near 600 nm over 193-293 K, increasing as the temperature falls; a clear temperature dependence in the Wulf band.
Band-integrated cross sections (Table 3, image checked, p. 629; cm^2 molecule^-1 nm, columns 295 +- 3, 273 +- 3, 243 +- 3, 221 +- 3 and 203 +- 1 K; ratios to this work in brackets): this work, Hartley 245-340 nm (x 10^-16) 3.53, 3.53, 3.53, 3.54, 3.52; Huggins 325-340 nm (x 10^-20) 8.29, 7.41, 6.28, 5.77, 5.46; Chappuis 410-690 nm (x 10^-19) 6.22, 6.2, 6.16, 6.15, 6.13; Wulf 663-1000 nm (x 10^-19) 1.040, 1.030, 1.009, 1.003, 0.988. The table also gives BMD, Paur and Bass, Guer et al. (2005), Chehade et al. (2013), Bogumil et al. (2003), Burrows et al. (1999) and Orphal (2003) (tables/ tbl_41ebb553ca3e.json). Not extracted: no vocabulary quantity for a cross section integrated over wavelength (format need). The Wulf limits here are 663-1000 nm (the text of both papers), against 633-1000 nm in gorshelev_2014’s Table 3.
Datasets: Table 4 (image checked, p. 634), ‘x 10^-22 cm^2 molecule^-1’, at vacuum wavelengths ‘taken from El Helou et al. (2005)’, one per column with its temperature. ‘This work’ at 223 K: points of the 223 K file, ‘check’. Burkholder and Talukdar’s 779.416 nm value, 1.541, is half every other value there (3.15-3.33) and lies outside their range 407-762 nm (Table 1): suspect, kept as printed (TC-189).
Recorded bibliographic identity status: VALIDATED. This concerns identification of the source; it does not establish the scientific correctness of its contents.
