Recorded technique: Attosecond transient absorption of xenon in a few-cycle NIR pulse, measured and calculated with R-matrix with time dependence (RMT); ‘details of the RMT calculations/ experimental setup can be found in Refs. [26,27]’ (p. 1), ref. [26] being Hartmann et al. 2022 (hartmann_2022): Hartree-Fock xenon with the 4d^-1, 5s^-1 and 5p^-1 channels to total L = 40, no double ionisation (p. 4). Fig. 4 (p. 3): ‘populations of various states during SFI ionization as extracted from an RMT calculation using only the NIR pulse, centered at 0 fs, for 0.8 x 10^14 W cm^-2 intensity’: the ground state, a set of excited 1P^o bound states, and ‘the total population beyond a radial distance of 20 a.u.’, which ‘comprises both ionized and bound electrons, as Xe supports several, high-lying Rydberg states that extend beyond 20 a.u.’ (p. 3).

NOTHING IS TAKEN. The authors’ archive (Zenodo 10.5281/zenodo.15432565, their ref. [41]; attached to the paper in the library) holds the Fig. 4 populations against time, RMTpopulations.csv, at eight NIR intensities (0.8 to 2.5e14 W/cm2, more than the paper shows), to t = 2999.81 au: the ground state, the selected 1P^o bound states and the population beyond 20 au. They would give a many-electron xenon in a stated pulse, but the pulse is not the paper’s.
THE CARRIER (tools/extract/hutcheson_2025.py, which fails otherwise). The paper’s NIR is ‘760 nm’ (p. 1). The populations oscillate at twice the carrier frequency (p. 2); the spectrum of d(ground)/dt over 400 to 1400 au peaks at 2 omega with omega = 0.0675 to 0.0683 au at every intensity, i.e. 667 to 675 nm, not 0.05995 au (760 nm). The archive’s own bin/plot_rmt_populations.py draws Fig. 4 with pulse(0.8, IR_freq=0.06798), i.e. 0.06798 au (670 nm); helper_functions.pulse’s other defaults are a field envelope exp(-(t/186 au)^2) and E0 = 0.05336 sqrt(I / 1e14 W/cm2) au. So these NIR-only runs were most likely made with omega = 0.06798 au, as the 2022 archive’s example generator (hartmann_2022’s notes), and not with the 0.06 au of hartmann_2022’s runs. They also deplete the ground state less at the same label (0.883 against hartmann_2022’s 0.812 at 1.1e14; 0.797 against 0.623 at 1.5e14), as a different pulse would. The pulse is to be confirmed with the authors before any value is used; then the populations at the end of the run would be the data.
THE MEASURE, if taken: the population beyond 20 au includes Rydberg states (the authors’ warning) and falls after the pulse (0.0754 at +20 fs, 0.0703 at the end, 0.8e14); the ground-state survival is the cleaner measure, as in hartmann_2022.
