THE DILUTE GAS (pdf p. 5, Eq. 6 and Table 2): eta0 = d0 + d1 Tr^(1/4) + d2 Tr^(1/2) + d3 Tr^(3/4) + d4 Tr, in mPa s, Tr = T/T_c with T_c = 318.7232 K, Guder and Wagner’s; d = 0.118561, -0.378103, 0.416428, -0.165295, 0.0245381. Fitted to the primary data of 270-700 K (Kestin et al., Hoogland et al., Strehlow and Vogel, Hurly et al., Berg, Wilhelm et al.), ‘extrapolated with reasonable confidence from the triple point, 223.555 K, up to 1000 K’. optmat takes 223.555-1000 K.
UNCERTAINTY (pdf p. 9): ‘the dilute-gas model is estimated to have an uncertainty of 0.3% (at a coverage factor of two) for the temperature range 298 K to 700 K, rising to 1.5% at both the lowest (the triple point) and highest (1000 K) values’.
REPRODUCED: CoolProp 8.0.0’s viscosity (reference key QuinonesCisneros-JPCRD-2012) at 1e-6 mol/m^3 equals Eq. (6) to 1.4e-10, 230-1000 K (computed 2026-09-30). The paper’s check values at zero density (Table 3: 15.2887 uPa s at 300 K, 19.6796 at 400 K) lie 3.9e-5 and 3.2e-5 above Eq. (6) with the printed coefficients, presumably their unrounded ones; far below the stated uncertainty.
Recorded bibliographic identity status: VALIDATED. This concerns identification of the source; it does not establish the scientific correctness of its contents.
