Curation notes#
Journal pages 023816-1 to -7 = PDF pages 1-7; the library copy is marked ‘published 5 August 2016; corrected 28 December 2017’ (the corrected version). Identity checked against the first page. Air (0.8 N2 + 0.2 O2) is the medium; the N2 and O2 parameters of Table I are taken.
DEFINITIONS (SI; p. 2): P_e = eps0 chi_e E, ‘chi_e = 4 c eps0 n2 E^2 / 3’ (Eq. (1)), E the real transverse field (so with E = E_hat sin(omega t) the cycle-averaged index change is n2 (c eps0 E_hat^2 / 2) = n2 I: n2 is the self coefficient); rotational Eq. (2), vibrational Eq. (3): (d^2/dt^2 + Omega_v^2) chi_v = (4 pi^2 eps0 eta / mu)(d alpha/dQ)^2 E^2 (eta the number density, mu the reduced mass, d alpha/dQ the isotropic polarizability derivative). Refractive limit, Eq. (11): <chi_v> = gamma E_hat^2 / 2 Omega_v^2 + ...
TABLE I (p. 2; CSV and image checked; tools/extract/palastro_2016.py): N2, O2: fraction 0.8, 0.2; n2 (m2/W) 7.3e-24, 9.3e-24 ‘[6,16]’; Omega_v (s^-1) 4.5e14, 3.0e14 ‘[12]’; I_M (J s2) 1.46e-46, 1.9e-46 ‘[4]’; Delta a (m3) 6.7e-31, 10.2e-31 ‘[6]’; mu (kg) 1.2e-26, 1.3e-26; d a/dQ (m2) 1.75e-20, 1.46e-20 ‘[20]’. Only n2 and Delta a are extracted (no quantity for the others). The n2 are ‘adjusted in Table I to only include the electronic contribution n2 -> n2 - (3 pi^2 eta / c Omega_v^2 mu)(d alpha/dQ)^2’ from ‘the n2 values measured in Refs. [7,17], which include both the electronic and the vibrational contributions’ (p. 3) = wahlstrand_2012 and zahedpour_2015. REFERENCE NUMBERS: Table I’s ‘[6,16]’ and ‘[6]’ do not match that text: [6] is Palastro, Antonsen and Pearson 2011 (palastro_2011, which gives no Delta alpha) and [16] Mitrofanov et al. 2015; the values (Delta a 6.7 and 10.2 x 1e-31 m3 = wahlstrand_2012’s 6.7, 10.2 x 1e-25 cm3) show that [7] and [17] are meant (an off-by-one after the correction; [12] for Omega_v, = wahlstrand_2015 on H2 and D2, is likely [13] Demtroder, and [4] for I_M is Lin et al.). reproduced_from names the sources of the values. The reference state of n2 is not stated (that of the sources, 1 atm).
Recorded bibliographic identity status: VALIDATED. This concerns identification of the source; it does not establish the scientific correctness of its contents.
